The Rosa-Luxemburg-Stiftung is one of the largest political education institutions in Germany today, with branches in many countries worldwide. The Brussel-Madrid Office operates as a think tank reflecting on European and international issues such as the global power shift and the socio-ecological transformation of today’s society.
The rise of the far right in Spain—already consolidated in numerous regional and municipal governments, as well as in other international contexts—threatens the rights achieved after decades of feminist and social struggles. In the face of this reactionary offensive, which combines anti-gender agendas, neoliberal authoritarianism and institutional capture, feminisms are entering a new phase of challenge, reorganization, and resistance.
In order to open a space for critical, situated, and forward-looking reflection, a collectively rethinking is necessary: how do we resist, from where do we struggle, and with whom do we forge alliances in order to confront this context of growing institutional, cultural and symbolic violence.
Therefore, RLS Madrid Liaison office needs to carry out the following activities during 2025:
- Writing of 3 articles from feminist municipalist perspective that contribute to the debate and deepen knowledge on the questions above of around 5.000 words each.
- A final report that will include:
- Shared Diagnosis
- A collective assessment of the current context and its challenges for feminist movements within the reactionary cycle.
- Strategic Proposals for Feminisms
- Recommendations and strategic orientations to strengthen feminist responses to authoritarian, neoliberal, and anti-gender agendas.
- Resources for Continuity
- Tools and references to continue researching, building alliances, and resisting across different feminist, social, and political spaces.
- 1 workshop in presence in Spain, about caring cities. The notion of Caring Cities refers to an urban development paradigm that places care, well-being, and social equity at the center of city planning, governance, and daily life. Unlike traditional models of urban growth that prioritize economic efficiency, competitiveness, or infrastructure expansion, caring cities emphasize the creation of environments that are inclusive, supportive, and responsive to the diverse needs of their inhabitants. Ultimately, caring cities represent a shift from the urban model as a space of mere productivity and consumption toward one that foregrounds empathy, solidarity, and collective well-being as guiding values for sustainable urban futures.
